Tess Martin (USA): Slices in time
Installation at ASIFAKEIL in the Electric Avenue
Tess Martin (USA): Slices in time
Venue: ASIFAKEIL, Electric Avenue
Tess Martin is an animator who is inspired by materials, and has made films in sand, cut-outs, paint, ink and markers. She enjoys letting the audience in on how the films were made, and therefore the process of creation is often evident in her work. Themes of her films have included memory, relationships, human-animal communication, the environment, and politics.
For this installation she has created a diorama which evokes the various layers often present in animation – layers of time, comprised by at least twelve images per second; layers of artwork, often animated on different sheets of glass on a multiplane, or layers of movement, expressed one frame at a time.
The installation is complemented by her presentation on March 1 as part of the Animation Symposium "under-the-radar" at Raum D / quartier21, where you will get a chance to see some of her diverse films.

The MQ entrance at Volkstheater has become the fifth themed passage at MuseumsQuartier Wien and offers visitors "extraterrestrial".
Passage between MQ Court 7 and entrance Volkstheater
The Meteoritenpassage connects the MQ directly and symbolically with the neighboring Museum of Natural History. The central theme of the passage explores how present-day scientific museums evolved out of 18th- and 19th-century mineral collections and classification systems. Each poster from the on-site vending machine comes with a changing artistic miniature booklet.ongoing, daily 00:00-24:00
TONSPUR 66: Laura Mello (BRA): Living Radio Hier und Jetzt
Sound installation in the TONSPUR_passage
Live-intervention and radio broadcast Sat, Aug 08, 16–16:30, 17:30–18:30, 21–22:00
Installation Opening: Sun, Aug 23, 17:00
The setting is the courtyard of the MuseumsQuartier in Vienna. Two actors are walking and observing: people, movements, images, the atmosphere. They are describing what they see, they exaggerate, they use their imaginations, they become more serious, they fall silent. They are describing their impressions into wireless microphones. The signals are fed into a mixer, where the composer Laura Mello underscores this "living audio guide" with pre-produced sounds and sounds that she processes live. The mutual interplay of three protagonists is mixed in realtime and broadcast on the radio (Orange 94.0) within the radio series from the viennese Radia collective (radia.fm). Passers-by on location or listeners elsewhere can hear the action on normal USW radios, or with a Radio App on their smartphones. If you happen to also find yourself in the courtyard of the MuseumsQuartier it is very likely that you will be included in the observations, and so could have an impact on the process of making Living Radio.
Laura Mello is subsequently drawing from the rich store of audio material from the live action to complete a new sound work for the TONSPUR_passage as an Artist-in-Residence.
